I have just returned from a week long trip to Fish lake - Finally hiked "the notch" on the way in to see what all the hype is about and was not disappointed! I was quite disappointed however by the sad state of some the portages towards Bear lake - I know the whole point of backcountry camping is to enjoy nature in its most natural state - so what is the point of having poorly maintained "boardwalks" on the portage? I just walked through the mud rather than risk breaking my ankle falling off said "boardwalks" - I find these are more of a hindrance than a help in most cases and will gladly volunteer my time to help maintain these if needed. All in all the trip was amazing as it always is in Killarney, we had to chip through some ice on the paddle in and saw snow during the paddle out - it was great being in the park again in late fall - I almost felt as though we had the whole place to ourselves as we only saw one other couple during the week - looking forward to spring and the next trip!

LOLOL - it was a fantastic trip and yes, I will definitely post some pics soon! I have done this route a few times now - always in the late fall, planning for summer next year to cut down on the amount of warm gear I need to bring with me! watch for pics in the next coupl of weeks - there are some really great ones that we got of a skeletal system (possibly a moose?) that was washed up on and around a beaver lodge on Fish lake.

H Boyd - I am not sure you have the right McSweeney LOL, as I have no idea as to what co-op you are referring to (I do spend a lot of time shopping for gear at MEC though...) however, I do get let out of work occasionally and I go as far as I can into any park as quickly as possible so I can't be reached by anyone from work letting me know what is going wrong in my absence!
